John is currently Chief Financial Officer at WPP and has extensive finance, strategy, commerce-online, property, retail and transformation experience. He was previously Chief Executive Officer of Argos, where he led the digital transformation of the business, and prior to that was the Chief Financial Officer of J Sainsbury plc where he held responsibility for Sainsbury’s on-line and was also on the Board of Sainsbury’s Bank Plc.
John is a member of The Prince’s Advisory Council for Accounting for Sustainability. He also sits on the Retail Sector Council, which acts as a point of liaison between the UK Government and retail sector.
