John has enjoyed a diverse leadership career spanning three decades, in the broadcast, asset management, technology and construction sectors.
Currently John chairs J Murphy and Sons Limited ,a £1.5bn turnover, family-owned international infrastructure construction business. In addition, he works as an advisor with Lazard Asset Management.
John has extensive experience of leading businesses through volatile, complex and uncertain times.
At ITV plc John held a number of senior finance and management roles and in 2006 was appointed to the ITV plc Board. He was promoted from CFO, to COO and CEO, successfully steering the group through the 2008/9 financial crisis.
John’s other leadership experience includes CEO of Arqiva, the broadcast infrastructure business where he implemented a cultural and financial turnaround.As CEO of the Bibby Line Group, a diverse family company, he led a transformation program to create a sustainable portfolio of businesses.
Additionally John has served as a non-executive director of the following companies; Capita plc where he has also chaired the remuneration committee, Liverpool Football and Athletic Grounds plc and The Ambassador Theatre Group.
