Mike Parker is Chair of the Board of Governors at Liverpool John Moores University and Chair of the Board of Trustees at the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA). He is also Chair of the Alliance Manchester Business School (AMBS) MBA Advisory Committee and previously was a member of the AMBS Advisory Board. Additionally, Mike is a member of the Board of UCEA (Universities & Colleges Employers Association) and Chair of its Health & Safety Committee.
Mike recently stood down as Trustee and Honorary Secretary of the Energy Institute and as Chairman of Street League (a national charity that utilises sport to engage with inactive 16-25 year olds). Mike was previously Chairman of Liverpool’s economic development and regeneration company, Liverpool Vision, from 2007 to 2012.
Until recently, Mike was Senior Independent Director of PV Crystalox Solar plc; a Non-Executive Director of Sublimity Therapeutics, a Dublin-based pharmaceutical company; and a member of the Management Board of the Metropolitan Police from 2015 to 2019 and subsequently acted as a Strategic Advisor to the Metropolitan Police from 2019 to 2020.
Mike’s previous directorships with quoted companies include Senior Independent Director with Invensys plc and Laird plc, and member of the Board of SNC-Lavalin in Canada.
Mike began his career with Dow in 1968. During his 34 years with Dow, he was based in the US, UK, Switzerland and Hong Kong. He became President and Chief Executive Officer of The Dow Chemical Company in Midland, Michigan, USA in 2000 and was a member of the company’s Board of Directors from 1995 to 2003. He was subsequently appointed Group Chief Executive of British Nuclear Fuels, a nuclear technology and products manufacturing company, from 2003 until 2009.
Mike was awarded a CBE in the New Year Honours 2009 for services to the energy industry and in 2014 awarded the Citizen of Honour for the City of Liverpool.
